Abstract:

GPS-digitized tailings outlines, REPRESENTING ONLY EXPOSED TAILINGS ON PROPERTY THAT CANONIE HAD PERMISSION TO ENTER.

The data were supplied to the State Library as a series of DXF files. These were edited to create closed polygons and generalized with a tolerance of 0.2 meters. The data were not properly registered to the ground, so the coordinates were shifted to match their positions shown on edit plots from Canonie. Most polygons were shifted 240 feet west and 15 feet south from their original locations. Exceptions were polygyons with DS21_ values of 90 and 92, which were moved 150 feet west and 55 feet south. Polygons with DS21_ values of 202, 203, 205, 207-10, and 213-18 were shifted 82 feet west and 66 feet south.

The NAME attribute shows name of original DXF file.

These data were formerly available from the Montana State Library web site but were removed because they are potentially out of date. Please contact the Federal Superfund Bureau of the Montana Department of Environmental Quality if you want these data so they may tell you if newer or better data are available. If the data are not available from the Department of Environmental Quality, you may request a copy from the Montana State Library data archive.
